Three Girls

Watercolour.  48.6cm x 36.8cm.   Summer  2004
The location is the Lowry Centre at Salford Quays. I was really excited by this place, not just  for  the paintings by Lowry, all of which are wonderful, but this gallery used for special exhibitions, because it seemed to float and overhang the water in the old dock below and is flooded with light.

I found that images from both outside and inside the building intruded as reflections in the glass of the paintings and drawings on display.

The reflections included those from these young people. who's reactions to the works was charming - connecting them to the works by their body language as well as through their unwilling reflection. In my painting I have made the space around  intrude into the lives of the girls - turning the tables on them.
